The price of new housing edged up 0.3% from January to February 2008, said Statistics Canada. The rate slowed down after two months of accelerated growth but followed a downward trend which began in September 2006, said the federal agency.

Cable provider Shaw Communications Inc. said on Friday its profit more than tripled in the second quarter thanks to an $188-million tax recovery.
The company reported earnings of $299-million (69 cents per share), compared with $80-million (18 cents) a year ago. Excluding the tax gain, earnings would have come in at $113-million, a jump of almost 40%.
