Investors applaud EnCana split

EnCana Corp., Canada’s largest energy company by market value, had its biggest gain since 2006 after saying it will divide into separate oil and natural-gas producers to boost shareholder returns.

Flaherty tight lipped on CIBC, Barrick deal

Failure would ‘doom’ everyone, ABCP judge told

A failure to approve a proposed restructuring of 32-billion of frozen asset-backed commercial paper “dooms everyone” to steep losses and endless litigation, according to a lawyer for a committee of investors that is overseeing the workout.
Ben Zarnett, a lawyer at Goodmans, made the comments at an Ontario Superior Court hearing today into whether the restructuring — the biggest in Canadian history — should be approved.

GM to close Windsor plant; cut 1,400 jobs
